Dr Shana Gander-Zaucker

I am a CENTRE-UB Research Fellow acting as the PI on an ESRC funded project which aims to address a critical gap in our understanding of how public services, specifically police and healthcare providers, can effectively support disabled survivors of domestic abuse through the innovative approach of co-production, which is crucial for developing more responsive, user-centred services that meet the complex needs of this vulnerable population and improve their help-seeking experiences and outcomes. I have an extensive background of working in a variety of research, clinical, managerial, and educational settings. I have substantial experience of working with vulnerable populations in the UK as well as internationally. I have conducted impactful research in the fields of domestic abuse, participatory research, and public services, including the police and the NHS. The results of my previous research have been included in the Regional Strategic Plan for Domestic Violence. I have published my work as a first author and presented it at multiple conferences. Prior to my PhD, I have provided mental health services to patients from vulnerable populations for several years. I hold an MA in Mental Health Counselling and an MA in Special Education from which I graduated Summa Cum Laude.
